The short answer

In short.

If your Google Ads account has an Australian billing address, GST is added to your advertising charges. Google issues tax invoices, which you can download from the billing section of your Google Ads account. If your business is registered for GST, you can generally claim the GST back as a credit, as long as you hold a valid tax invoice. Check your situation with your accountant.

What it means for your budget

The budget you set in Google Ads is before GST. A campaign that spends a thousand dollars in a month will cost more once GST is added, so allow for it when you plan.

Where to find the invoice

Tax invoices are in the billing section of your Google Ads account. Download them each month for your bookkeeping.

Claiming it back

A business registered for GST can generally claim GST credits on business purchases, and needs a tax invoice to do it. The Australian Taxation Office explains what a tax invoice must include and when you need one. Your accountant can confirm how it applies to you.

If you are not registered for GST

If your business is not registered for GST, you cannot claim the credit, and the GST is simply part of the cost.

Management fees are separate

If someone manages your campaign, their fee is a separate charge with its own GST, invoiced by them, not by Google.
