An electrician cannot take a call with the board open. That is not a scheduling problem and no amount of organisation fixes it.
This is what a text-back does about the calls that ring out, what it will not do, and how to tell whether it is worth having.
The work an electrician does is the kind you cannot interrupt. Live boards, tested circuits and jobs at height all require both hands and full attention, and the phone rings anyway.
There is a safety dimension here that other trades do not have in the same way. Stopping mid-task to take a call is not merely inconvenient, and most electricians will simply not do it, correctly.
The calls themselves are frequently urgent for the same reason. Somebody with no power, a board that keeps tripping or a burning smell is not making a considered enquiry, and they are not going to wait.
So there is a reliable daily collision between the calls worth the most and the moments you are least able to take them.
Most callers do not leave a message. A person with no power hangs up and rings the next electrician, so the call never appears in anything you would review.
This is why the problem persists in businesses that are otherwise well run. Nobody ignores a message. What happens is that a call rings out, is abandoned, and produces no record of any kind.
The consequence is that most electricians estimate this at close to zero and are wrong, because the estimate is based on the calls that did leave a message.
A switchboard upgrade or a rewire is a four-figure job, and it usually begins with a short urgent call-out that somebody else answers.
That is what makes the loss disproportionate for electricians. It is rarely the call-out fee that walks out the door; it is the larger work that would have followed from being the one who turned up.
Recovering one such job a year would cover this several times over, which makes the decision less about the price and more about whether calls are actually being missed.
If they are not, this does nothing. That is a genuinely possible answer and it is what the call log is for.
A call that goes unanswered triggers a text within seconds, in your own words, saying you are on a job and asking what they need. The customer replies in writing and you handle it when it is safe to.

A reply in seconds is what stops somebody dialling the next electrician. It is not persuasion, it is timing, and timing is precisely what you cannot offer with a board open.
It also arrives with the useful details. When you do ring back you already have the address and a description, rather than starting from a missed number.
The calls an electrician misses are the ones that could not safely be taken. That is worth solving with something other than trying harder.

A short text within seconds in your business's own words, saying you are on a job and asking what they need.
A text cannot reach a landline, so those alert you directly instead and the enquiry still reaches you.
Probably, given what an electrical job is worth, but the call log answers it properly and the report is free.
Yes. It runs on your existing number and the account stays in your name.
