Google Business Profile

Can you merge or move a Google Business Profile?

Google allows only one Business Profile per business, and a profile Google treats as a duplicate will not show on Search or Maps.

The short answer

In short.

If you created a duplicate by mistake, you can remove it without affecting your verified profile. If someone else owns your profile, you can request access. If your business has moved, you update the address on the existing profile rather than starting a new one, so the reviews stay with it.

Duplicates

Google can treat a profile as a duplicate when a verified profile already exists for the same business, when profiles share an address, or when the same business has separate profiles for different services. Google's help page on resolving duplicate profiles explains each case.

Removing your own duplicate

If you made a second profile by mistake, you can remove it from your Google account. Everything on the removed profile goes with it, including its managers, so check carefully that you are removing the right one.

When someone else owns it

You can request ownership. The current owner has three days to respond. If they do not, you may get the option to claim the profile, though that option is not always available.

Moving premises

Update the address on your existing profile. Starting a fresh profile at the new address creates a duplicate and leaves your reviews behind. Expect Google to review the change, and possibly ask you to verify again.

Separate businesses sharing an address

Separate profiles are allowed for distinct businesses with different names and clearly different signage, and for some departments and individual practitioners.

If your profile was merged wrongly

If two genuinely separate businesses were merged, you can appeal through Google support. You may be asked for photos of permanent signage showing both.
