A Warners Bay business is found by two different people in the same week: somebody who lives here, and somebody who has driven over to the foreshore.
Those two type different things into a phone, and a listing written for only one of them is losing the other.
The foreshore brings people who do not live in Warners Bay. Locals search for the business or the street, visitors search for the thing they want plus the suburb, and one listing has to answer both.
Warners Bay sits on the edge of the lake with a strip of cafes and restaurants along The Esplanade and professional services set back behind it. The foreshore is a destination, which is not true of most suburbs this size.
That gives a business here a wider catchment than its address suggests, and a different mix of searches from a business a few kilometres inland with the same shopfront.
We are around twenty-five minutes north in Wickham. For the local half of that audience, a Warners Bay address is a clear advantage, and for the visitor half it matters much less.
For the local searches, distance and a complete listing. For the visitor searches, reviews and photographs, because those people are choosing from further away with less to go on.

Most businesses here have optimised for one audience without noticing. A cafe known to locals by name can be invisible to somebody searching for lunch near the lake, and the fix is a wording change rather than a rebuild.
The foreshore cafes and restaurants, and the allied health, real estate and professional services behind them.
The foreshore businesses gain most, because the visitor half of their trade is entirely decided by search and they have usually never written for it.
The professional services gain from the local half. Their customers live nearby, compare two or three options and ring one, which is a contest decided by the listing.
It helps least for a business serving the whole lake from a Warners Bay address, where the local map is only part of the picture and the pages carry more.
Widen the services list so it answers a visitor's words as well as a local's, without turning the business into something it is not.
The first job here is usually that widening, because it costs nothing and it is the difference between being found by half your potential customers and all of them.
Then the weekend hours and the photographs, since the foreshore trade concentrates into a couple of days and errors there are expensive out of proportion to how small they are.
Then the pages, which carry the searches the map does not, and where the work across Newcastle and the work around the lake meet.
Two audiences, one listing. Making it answer both is a wording job, not a rebuild, and it is free.

Yes for the local searches, which are made nearby. Visitor searches are more forgiving on distance and are won on reviews and photographs.
Both, in the same listing. They use different words for the same thing, and the services list has room for both.
Listing changes can show within days. Positions that hold take months, because reviews and mentions hold them.
